Use SQL*Plus and iSQL*Plus to access the Oracle Database

Modify database initialization parameters

Describe the stages of database startup

  1. shutdown
  2. nomount (started)
  3. mount
  4. open

Describe the database shutdown options

  1. normal (if nothing specified), the database will wait until all users are disconnected
  2. transactional, non new transactions are permitted but instance will wait all active transaction terminate
  3. immediate, instance will rollback any active transaction. it is clean
  4. abort. no clean
